Please do not feed these stray dogs unless you want to assume responsibility for them. We see a lot of this in Berryville. We are a prime dumping area. The problem is there is nowhere to take these animals. All the shelters are full. The Sheriff's Dept. doesn't have the resources and unless the animals are aggressive, they will not respond. Berryville does not have the resources. The city ordinance is out of date. In my ten years here there has never been an animal control officer. We did have a contract with the shelter in Athens but they cancelled that many years ago due to lack of space.

Where these dogs are hanging out may be good for you because they are not on your front door. However, they are creating an issue for some of the people that live close by. They and their animals are being approached by the dogs and it's not good. They demonstrate aggressive behavior that is preventing some residents from being in their yard or even taking a walk.

I can understand wanting to help but unless you are willing to take ownership, please do not feed them. It may seem like a good idea but it just promotes more of the same. If you care to help, take them to your house. I already have four rescues so I understand.
